"The Greatest"
For me Davie was the "Greatest". I was asked recently who I thought was the best player I have seen and without a seconds pause the words Davie Cooper of my beloved Rangers came to mind. Later that day I watched the Super Cooper video and seeing his silky skills on show once again only backed up my opion of the great man. Always a legend in my eyes and there will never be another quite like him.

Bankies Legend
I consider myself to have been one of the luckiest football fans in Scotland to have been able and privileged to see Davie Cooper play most of the games he played for Clydebank and a great many that he played for Rangers. As a young guy with Clydebank, he developed from a player of raw talent and unbelievable ability to the first name on the team-sheet and the player that most of our opposition feared. Some of the things he could do with a ball were incredible and there were many occasions when opposing full backs must have been praying for full time, after Coop had given them a roasting. To be able to see this emerging talent develop was such a thrill for a young Bankies fan, growing up in Clydebank. But it should not go unsaid that Coop played in a fantastic Bankies team with other Bankies legends like Jim Fallon, Jim Gallacher, Mike Larnach and others. He left Clydebank for Ibrox with the thanks and best wishes of the fans, as we all knew that he was a player of brilliance and destined for better things. What he went on to achieve with Rangers and Scotland is well documented, the things sticking in my mind being his wonder keepy uppy Dryburgh Cup Final goal against Celtic, his free-kick rocket past Jim Leighton at Hampden and his penalty for Scotland in Cardiff which saw us qualify for the World Cup on the night the great Jock Stein passed away. He went on to became a hero at Ibrox and then at Motherwell. Davie Cooper was a phenomenal footballer and an all round great guy. He was making a new career for himself as a football pundit when he was cruelly taken from us but the memories of Davie Cooper remain with all of us lucky enough to see him in action. You really were a legend Coop and we miss you.

Childhood memories
I could never overstate the effect Davie Cooper had on my life. He was my idol from a wee boy and at 28 I still remember him often, my best tribute....he made a young right footed winger try and kick with his left leg!!!. I watched some footage on you tube last night and wept...what a talent, 39 years of age is a travesty...god bless you Davie, you made a lot of people happy. X

"The Greatest" Poem
He was the greatest of them all
With wondrous skills when with the ball
The man they called The Magic Trooper
The one and only DAVIE COOPER
Began in Clydebank as a boy
Destroy defences was his ploy
His tricks and skill amazed the team
The man played football like a dream
At last to Ibrox Davie came
His destiny was football fame
Jock Wallace signed him for us all
COOP had heard the Rangers call
And then for Scotland he did play
To show the world The Auld Scots way
The ball was at the MASTERS feet
--The enemy soon felt the heat
The caps he won were twenty two
The pundits said this was to few
A gentleman with so much skill
To watch this man was such a thrill!
But now hes gone his last game played
We wish that DAVIE could have stayed
No finer man graced Rangers ranks
For this we offer grateful thanks
So if you are afootball fan
Lift up your glass to this GREAT MAN
We'll drink to RANGERS SUPER TROOPER
Hes now IMMORTAL--DAVIE COOPER

"Number 11" Poem
All the rangers fans they cried that day
when the Lord in his wisdom took Davie away
one question did ring through the sorrow and tears
why at the age of just thirty nine years?
With a left foot so lethal
that would stun and amaze
had the football elite
all singing his praise
So Davie we miss you
we know you're in heaven
and to every gers fan
you are the Rangers eleven

The Special One
I used to skip away from Clydebank High school and go down to Kilbowie park and see if I could get a glimpse of davie training when he played at Clydebank. I met him a few times and found him to be so down to earth and such a genuinely nice guy. I was delighted when he signed for the Gers, and still have the RANGERS news hailing this great signing for us. He will live in the hearts of many, for many different reasons, and for many years to come. Everytime I think of him it brings a smile to my face then a lump to my throat...He was simply the best...a spectators dream...forever in blue.

Super Cooper
On the day Davie died me, my wife, daughters, brothers and parents were totally stunned. The male members, by watching him week in week out, knew what a special talent he was, both on the field and off it, and through the stories we told them, the females of our family knew what he meant to us and in their own way loved him to.
We went to Kilbowie park and layed our floral tribute, we left for Ibrox and on our arrival we couldn't believe our eyes, flowers everywhere and scarves from loads of teams including our greatest rivals.
I had lost it by this time but as true as I write this, I turned away from his shrine towards the main stand and I heard, Davie oh Davie Cooper, oh Davie Cooper on the wing coming down from the empty stand.
It was maybe in my mind that I heard this but i'm not afraid to tell anyone who'll listen, the man had and still has a very special place in my heart,
God bless Coop.
We'll never forget you.

God given talent
It was a dark day 12 years ago when you were sadly taken from us but it is with great pleasure and pride that I can write this tribute for all the wonderous and exceptional things you could do with a football. I like so many watch the Dryborough cup final in awe every time I see it and can honestly say you are up there with the likes of Pele, Best and Maradona with the greatest of Gods given talent.
I will never forget the atmosphere of the 10th anniversary league cup final when the entire crowd at Hampden Rangers and Motherwell fans together were singing your name with Joy and reliving happy memories it was a true testiment to a man, no a legend who I was fortunate to see many times wearing the blue of Rangers and Scotland.
Once in the rangers family always in the Rangers family. You are still greatly missed and will always have a place in my heart. God must have one hell of a football team up there in Heaven with you taking all the free kicks. RIP Davie.

My Hero
I have to say a big thank you to you for making this site to the Greatest Rangers player i ever had the privilege of seeing, Davie was my hero and i was lucky enough to meet him at a book signing for his autobiography "True Blue" in WH Smith, Sauchiehall street in Glasgow and he personally signed a copy for me, It is my most prized possession, His goal in the Skol cup final was one of the hardest ever taken free-kicks i have seen and when Leighton said to Davie that he nearly got a finger to it Davie replied " Aye on the way back out " that was superb.
I still find it hard to believe he is gone, he still had so much to pass down to the kids he was teaching and im sure we would be reaping the rewards of his coaching not only with Rangers but Scotland too.
God rest Davie you will always be in my Heart.

True Blue
Stumbled across this web site last night - Just to say, like so many others have, it brought back a lot of happy memories for me of 'Super Cooper's time at Ibrox. I could honestly watch that Dryborough cup final all day - only maybe Pele and Best at there peak could have pulled off something like that! Davie you were a 'True Blue', you will live on in the hearts and minds of all true Ranger's supporters.

All Time Favourite Ranger
My all-time favourite Ranger. Reading his biography as I do quite regularly fills me with sadness and joy. A strange combination. What a player and genuinely nice person. I am of an era that my first ever game was the Skol cup final in 87 and THE freekick. Rip Davie. Garry.

Skol Cup Final Free Kick
I vividly remember Coopers free kick against Aberdeen in the Skol Cup Final, 1987. The ball left his foot like an Exercet missile and rocketed straight into the top corner. To this day, I have never seen a dead ball struck with so much power and accuracy. Coops you were the greatest, we will miss your gift.
